THE UPTOWN

What : Retail Center

Where: Jonesboro, AR

When: 2020 - Current

The remodel of the sole remaining anchor store of a demolished mall into a vibrant shopping center is a prime example of adaptive reuse. The project transformed the vacant store into an exciting new space that is both functional and sustainable. One of the key features of the remodel is the creation of a covered public space. This space provides a place for shoppers and passersby to gather and enjoy the outdoors. Another sustainable feature of the remodel is the use of xeriscaping and a number of features to mitigate stormwater runoff from the parking lot. These features include rain gardens, permeable pavement, and bioswales. These features help to reduce the amount of stormwater that enters the storm sewer system, which can help to improve water quality.
